Agreements to Live By

My library is filled with a wide variety of books; this is one I have given to many people because I believe in its message. The Four Agreements by don Miguel Ruiz. Here is the overview that can transform your life...

Agreement 1: Be Impeccable With Your Word.

Say what you mean and mean what you say. Speak with integrity and share the truth in a loving manner. Avoid gossip and only speak kindly to yourself.

Agreement 2: Don't Take Anything Personally.

Remember that what other people say and do is a projection of what they are experiencing themselves. What other people do has nothing to do with you. Release the ego-based thought process and become immune to the opinions and actions of others. There is no reason to be a victim of needless suffering.

Agreement 3: Don't Make Assumptions.

Ask questions to clarify the information you need. Communicate as clearly as you can to avoid misunderstandings and drama. Remember that your questions are to bring clarity; you are unable to control the behavior of others. If people react to your questions, perhaps it is because they are projecting.

Agreement 4: Always Do Your Best.

Your best is going to change based upon the circumstances. Simply do your best at the time and release self-judgment, negative self talk, and regrets. When you do your best it can encourage others to do the same.

...these agreements will transform your life. They may feel challenging to implement. Be patient, do your best, and strive to notice when you can apply these practices to your life.

Live freely, speak with love.
