Instant Gratification

This fast-paced world we live in has become known for instant gratification.

Slow down and smell the flowers.

Sometimes faster has nothing to do with better. Consider how wonderful a walk with a child or dog can be. Remember how wonderful the air smells after a spring rain. Imagine the beauty of the flowers, trees, birds and other gifts of nature we have been blessed with. Each of these natural wonders has evolved over centuries yet offer a form of instant gratification when they enter our lives.

Remember the firsts.
In Minnesota, we experience these natural wonders each spring. The first buds on the trees. The first tulips blooming. The first robin protecting her eggs. These are experiences that cause us to marvel over the miracles of the world. These opportunities can also form some of the strongest and fondest memories. Each of us can use the memories as personal coaching moments.

Engage your senses.

Whenever you engage your senses, those memories will be strong and instantly brought to mind when triggered. Triggers can include smells from a home-baked meal, flowers delivered by a loved one, or baby powder; the hug from a loved one, the excitement felt by success, or the grip of a child's hand; and the taste of fresh squeezed lemonade, chocolaty hot cocoa, or right-out-of-the-oven-gooey-warm brownies. The more engaged your senses are during wonderful moments in your life, the more often you will experience "instant gratification."

Be grateful for life's experiences.
