No ‘nots’

How many times a day do you say the word "not" and how many times is that what happens? We get what we focus on whether we want it, or not.

Don't Think of the Color Green

No matter what color you think about, I don't want you to think about the an elephant... especially not a brightly colored elephant. What did you think of? Most people will automatically begin to envision images that are what they are told to avoid and then, when a suggested vision is injected, they will see it vividly.

Say What You Mean

If you reflect upon the above sentence, you will notice that I suggested you avoid thinking about the color green by asking you "not" to think of it. Our subconscious omits the word "not" and focuses on the subject of the comment. With that in mind, imagine how many times each day you tell people to do or think about things you want them to avoid.

What Do You Want

If you know what you don't want, then you can identify what you do want. Once you have a clear understanding of your desired outcome, you can convey that message clearly, ensuring focus is on the intended goal. This is an excellent idea to remember when you are creating marketing material, invitations, or giving direction.

Apply this technique to your everyday life and enjoy the outcomes.
